Welcome to God Grown Kreative, where art meets faith and creativity is only bound by what God can do! Meet Kaitlin Klefman-Crosby, me, "The Kreative" behind the multimedia concept art. I was the kid who picked up two crayons, one in each hand, and went at it with no concern for a dominant writing hand or for coloring in the lines. My mom had to practically force me into choosing which hand to focus on. At ten years old I was pretending to be hired as a logo designer by my younger sister for her imaginary startup. That is where it all began, I guess I was always meant to be an artist. Spoiler alert, I have moved on from JUST crayons since then; now I create art through the act of worship and diving into what inspires my content in an art piece. All works are rooted in the word of God, inspired by the love of Jesus Christ, and my life's testimony. At God Grown Kreative, unique art pieces come to life between God and the Kreative (that’s me!) that will resonate with your soul and speak to your spirit. I call myself "The Kreative" because it's not about me...it is about the Lord and what he can do through me, the gift of art skills, and my obedience or “YES Lord.”
Jesus looked at them and said, “with man this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26
I currently live and work in Cleveland, Ohio where I have settled since January 2021. I was born and raised a Christian in Reno, Nevada where I accepted the Holy Spirit in my heart at a young age. I graduated with a Bachelors of Art, with an emphasis in drawing and a Bachelors of French at the University of Nevada-Reno in May 2020. In 2021 I moved to Ohio with my parents to be closer to my brother. I found roots in a church a couple months after and in 2022 I found the love of my life at this church. I married Cody Crosby in September 2024 with God as the center of our 3-fold cord (Ecclesiastes 4:12). My experiences growing up, my belief in who I am in Jesus Christ the son and savior, and studying abroad in France have made me into a woman who strives for kindness and mercy and to let God lead and speak through me and to listen to all perspectives in life to find true growth.
With bible verses dispersed among the art, becoming art itself, and nurturing a concept, God Grown Kreative, can make us look at people, artists, and artwork in an entirely different light where new doors of knowledge and understanding open. Mixing worship and concept is so fruitful in pushing art so far that new ideas after new ideas are exposed. God Grown Kreative believes in the power of concepts which can produce masterpieces that can change hearts, plant the seeds of the gospel, and introduce the love and compassion of Christ. I love that art can express those words that can't find voices, that it can start conversations, and that it can be a journey to self-discovery. I procure so much more from an art piece by being introduced to a concept rather than just viewing the image. Honestly, a concept can turn an ‘I don’t really care’ image into a masterpiece. Purpose within a piece creates understanding that surpasses the surface level ideas and provides insight into the work in a whole new manner; that is concept to me.
My large body of work from college is called “Journey to Self-Identification.” This body of work is a discovery of identity as a woman in today’s world. I find my identity through using my own body as the model, understanding the history of women to qualify who I am and choose to be, and exploring my self-image as an individual and a person of equality. My preferred mediums push and compliment the concepts under this umbrella of work and I am excited to express my ideas and thoughts further as I continue exploring this feminist theme. This work was instrumental in discovering who I am and accepting myself so I could then understand who I am according to God and who He says I am. It is hard to have self-esteem enough to believe that God loves us how we are, but it is true! Once I figured out who I was as an individual through this body of work, I was then able to understand why God would love me. God loves unconditionally and beyond any love I could have for anyone, including myself. If you need to hear it today, God loves you too, just as you are.
The current body of work is called “Growth,” this body of work takes a look at growth through life and how I have grown through seasons of depression and isolation. This is, of course, my artist's way of handling the feelings of Covid and major changes in 2021-2022. It was a lengthy time of depression and anxiety for me, but it was also a rediscovery of who I am in Christ and what my place is in my new city of Cleveland, Ohio. I found roots in a church and a new love of houseplants.
Houseplants are my subject matter because who doesn’t like plants, quality air, and joy! 🙂 The houseplants are depicting the growth I had personally and in my business. This body of work depicts houseplants taking over the world in an apocalyptic environment as well as all types of plant growth mixed with bible verses. The apocalyptic works represent the depression and isolation that then gets filled and oversaturated over time by houseplants or growth and progress. It expresses the uselessness and destruction of our human creations, inventions, and our inability to avoid sinning. Like a rusty door covered in overgrown plants, the power and eternal perspective of God and the heavenly places swallows up and covers the sin and destruction. This compares my growth spiritually to the overgrown beautiful houseplants and, in this, their ability to destroy isolation. The plants show the power of Christ's love and the overwhelming feeling of knowing God is for us and always fighting with us. During this tough time of isolation in Covid and the loneliness of a new home, Christ reached out for me and brought light and joy back into my life. This new life is depicted with the houseplants in the artwork, and that's just the surface of the concept.
Now post Covid and after marriage and spending years developing this body of work, it has followed a natural progression of a concept. The houseplants now depict the growth and progress of life with God against the world that tears down. A world and life affected by chronic illness and discouragement with joy and peace amongst the hardest times This body of work has become a testimony of my life and all the ups and downs because as Ecclesiastes 3 says, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:” This means there is purpose God will bring out of every bad thing or season the devil pushes for and that we will be continually shaped into our Jesus-like character despite the difficulties that come from life, the devil’s distractions, or satan’s encouragement of our sins.

I can never choose just one medium because I have so many loves from graphite drawing to vinyl and Cricut crafting and crochet works! This is why I call God Grown Kreative a multimedia concept business. My favorite medium is charcoal and pastels because they provide a sense of impermanence and softness. It is a forgiving medium that can be applied and wiped away in a single swipe, which is both challenging and exciting. Sometimes the best parts of my pieces are the smudged accidents. The ability to blend these mediums together seamlessly is my favorite aspect of using charcoal and pastels as they can be soft and smooth in transition, or a rough and messy blend. I also adore using the reductive drawing technique or drawing with an eraser. With this technique these mediums allow the white of the paper to come out almost pure, creating an erased line which can be unsettling, but beautiful because it is almost more powerful than any of the darkest charcoal or pastel lines.
Digital work is becoming more common in my work because of the easy use with set-up and clean-up, as well as the excitement of what you can do with a single digital tool. I am falling in love with the digital ease, however, my current obsession is acrylic markers because I love the vibrant colors that go with the houseplant growth themes and as someone who despises a paintbrush, I am so happy to see this alternative becoming more and more popular (Meaning available to me!). I even have empty pens that I get to fill with my own color mixes of acrylic!
My goals are many, but most of all I am excited to dive in and challenge myself. I intend to further my knowledge and experimentation of digital art and cricut creations as well as mixing all my mediums into a cohesive concept. It is a whole new ballpark of opportunities, textures, and techniques. It is also my desire to share my art with people through my online shop, Etsy shop, art market opportunities, personalized commissions, selling printed pieces, and doing freelance work and blogging. I want to share my views with others, to empower with my images, and provide works of art that express how freeing a relationship with Christ can be for our minds and souls!
